{Review/Giveaway} ADAPTED FOR FILM by Stacey Rourke

O P E N I N G   L I N E:

"Hollywood is a saucy vixen that would sooner chew you up and spit you out than ever really love you." I pantomimed running my fingers over the brim of an imaginary fedora only to receive a blank stare from the Barbie look-alike reporter seated across from me.

(pg. 2, US E-ARC edition)

As you may recall, last fall, I had a week-long event entitled A Week of Shooting Stars that featured a lot of books about actors and singers. I also like books about books/authors/readers/etc. When I heard about ADAPTED FOR FILM by Stacey Rourke, a book about actors and authors, I was intrigued!

Aubrey Evans has hit the big time. Her best-selling romance is about to be a major motion picture. Everyone is buzzing because Greyson Meyers has been cast as the male lead. She's protective of her baby, however, and doesn't want to see Hollywood tear it apart and turn it into something completely new. She has several clashes with director Kole Camden over the direction the movie is taking, especially when scenes are removed, re-arranged, or completely altered. News of their clashes begin hitting the Hollywood gossip magazines, and the movie is in trouble--before it's even finished filming. The only way to get it back on track is to have a very public relationship go viral. In her book, Aubrey's main character is an author who falls for an actor on her movie set. It's decided that real-life will mimic the book, and Aubrey the Author will date Greyson the Hollywood Star. Fans go nuts, but Aubrey is in over her head!

Last year, I really enjoyed Rebecca Serle's FAMOUS IN LOVE, which was about a girl cast in the main role of a popular YA book series about to make movie waves. Likewise, ADAPTED FOR FILM is like so many real-life dreams of authors hitting it big with a movie. I wanted to see a book mimic life again. It's fun when it happens in the book world, and still a relatively novel concept. It's definitely a book for readers, for fans of a genre. With the launch of so many major franchises featuring books such as Twilight, The Hunger Games, and, most recently, 50 Shades, readers enjoy going behind the scenes "for real" and seeing what life is like on the set. Books like FAMOUS IN LOVE and ADAPTED FOR FILM will appeal to such readers and are solid wish fulfillment novels.

ADAPTED FOR FILM is a fast read and a stand-alone (albeit with potential for more in the future). It's a romantic comedy that will appeal to many adult readers looking to escape from everyday life.

I could take or leave this cover. I like the title treatment and the mix of color. It's fun! I also like that there's a city superimposed on the cover. It doesn't necessarily let you know the book is about authors and movies unless you see the "Hollywood" sign, but that's just me!
